They believe that art has the ability to be transformative. In a progressive community like Northwest Philadelphia and the Germantown Corridor, with a rich history of political activism and involvement, art can be a beacon for inspiration and social change. Through the arts, they can foster civic engagement, social change, and community revitalization.
The Mt. Airy Art Garage is serving as a center for children and adults to learn, find safe space, and rejoice in the unique creativity that springs from us all. They embrace our children in the process, reach out to elders and emerging artists, and give them the opportunity to work with professionals to make our community an even better place to live.
In their first ten years, the Mt. Airy Art Garage has become a hub for artists who share and mold their dreams together, finding validation and making the outcome bigger than any one individual. They are also conscious that MAAG, located in the heart of the Wissahickon watershed, gives us a unique opportunity to combine art with an awareness of the fragility of our natural infrastructure.
